An Offbeat escape
Sheltered in three serene locations of the Southern Western Ghats are six plantation homes across Valparai, Nilgiris and Sakleshpur, each a quiet echo of a bygone era.
We are neither hotel nor resort. There is no swimming pool, no multi-cuisine restaurant and no room service. What we offer is the quiet charm of a gracious plantation home, simple in its ways, rooted in place and full of character.
Our greatest pride is our warm, local staff. They are not schooled in the art of hospitality, yet they welcome you with a sincerity that cannot be taught. They will guide you through the wilderness and tea-scented walks, serve homestyle meals and make you feel like family.
This is an offbeat escape. One that is timeless in its appeal, quietly luxurious and held together by hospitality that comes straight from the heart.

The symbol for the National Trust is an oak leaf, and Natural England’s is an acorn but you will also see lots of yellow arrows, marking a right of way for walkers or, less common, a round brown symbol with a person walking over hills which shows open access, so you can explore away from the paths.
At the start it clings to the shoreline, passing by landmarks like Hodgson Hill, which is thought to be the remains of a Viking settlement. Then head inland up to Bonscale Pike before descending back to the lakeshore at Howtown Wyke. This was originally a 16th-century hunting lodge, and it’s the third highest pub in England. Perfectly poised at the highest point of the national park (403m) on Blakey Ridge, it has superb views across Rosedale and Farndale.

Soon, they discoverd their fortune: Tea! Today the estate is home to 555 acres of organic tea and 1215 acres of conventionally grown tea.
Every nook and corner of the estate is packed with stories. Mr. Congreve himself wrote a charming book about the district’s early history. You can leaf through it at your leisure in the library, over a cup of tea.
